Behavioral Videos
There is much to know about parrots and cockatoos and the videos placed here are to help with that task. Behavior that you see in captive parrots is based on wild behaviors. Being raised in captivity does not make the need for these any less. In fact, being raised this way mean that we must take special care to provide outlets for these natural needs and tendencies.
A TRAINING SESSION USING ABA
This video shows Chloe going through many of the behaviors that she has learned since I became a certified trainer. Many of the behaviors she learned just weeks ago. The new behaviors she is learning are: to be turned upside down, to shake her head "yes" and to allow handling with a towel.
When I file her nails in the video keep in mind that she did not want anyone to touch her feet. Using the tools of behavior science, she now allows a full pedicure.
I FOUND OUT THE HARD WAY
In this video Chloe protects her "mate" from the dangerous parrot-toy. It may seem funny to you but it is all quiet serious to her, I assure you.
When Chloe becomes despondent or lethargic I will expose her to Fred, the toy parrot. This gives her a chance to come out of her mood and get back into the swing of things. I do not recommend doing something like this for amusement. It is not funny for the bird and it should not be funny for you.
