Proventricular Dilation Disease, or PDD has been a mystery for over 30 years. Now, researchers at UCSF have isolated the virus. It has been given the name Avian Bornavirus (ABV). This is a variety of the same culprit that causes encephalitis in livestock.

A DNA test for the disease has been created and soon should be available. For more information please read the article at the University of San Francisco here: http://pub.ucsf.edu/newsservices/releases/200807295/

The test will allow us to isolate infected birds and slow the spread of infection. Research on the virus may lead to prevention of the disease in the future.

The PDD test is currently being testing in the field. We should have it available soon. This will help us with a long-standing disease propagation problem!
